Monthly cost breakdown
Reading the result. A store doing $300k/month and a store doing $3m/month are on the same platform but can have very different Plus bills. If B2B, checkout extensibility and international expansion are on your roadmap, Plus is often cheaper than building the same capability with apps and workarounds — see when it makes sense to upgrade to Shopify Plus or talk to our Shopify Plus agency team.
Shopify Plus pricing in 2026, explained
Base fee. Shopify Plus has historically started at around $2,300 per month on a three-year term (billed annually), or roughly $2,500 per month on a standard one-year agreement. That is a big jump from the ~$399/month Advanced plan.
Revenue-based pricing. For larger merchants the fee moves to a variable model of around 0.25% of monthly sales, with the flat fee acting as a floor and the variable fee capped at a widely reported $40,000 per month. The crossover point sits at roughly $800,000 in monthly revenue.
Transaction fees. If you use Shopify Payments you avoid the extra per-order fee Shopify charges when payments run through a third-party gateway. On a store doing millions a year that fee alone can run into five or six figures.
Hidden costs. Apps, development, integrations, migration and payment processing routinely add up to more than the subscription itself. Full breakdown in our Shopify Plus pricing 2026 guide.
Prices change. Treat these figures as well-established reference points and confirm the current numbers with Shopify before you sign — the structure of the cost is what you need to plan around.
How to use the Shopify Plus pricing calculator
- Monthly online revenue (GMV). Use your trailing 3-month average, not a peak month. The calculator applies the 0.25% variable fee only above the ~$800k crossover and never charges less than the base fee.
- Contract term. The three-year term is billed annually at ~$2,300/month; the one-year agreement is ~$2,500/month. Longer terms lower the fee but lock you in — weigh that against a planned replatform or exit.
- Payment gateway. Keep Shopify Payments selected unless you must use a third-party provider (regional coverage, existing acquiring contract). The extra ~0.2% is applied to the full GMV.
- Apps and development. Enter what you pay today; Plus rarely removes app spend by itself, but native B2B, Functions and checkout extensibility often replace two or three paid apps.
- One-off migration and integrations. Included in year-one TCO only. Use our Shopify migration checklist to scope the work before you estimate it.
Shopify Plus vs Shopify Advanced: what the platform fee buys
| Capability | Shopify Advanced (~$399/mo) | Shopify Plus (from ~$2,300/mo) |
|---|---|---|
| Checkout customisation | Limited branding | Checkout extensibility — upgrade-safe UI extensions, Functions, branding API |
| B2B / wholesale | Apps or separate store | Native B2B: company accounts, price lists, catalogs, net terms |
| Automation | Shopify Flow (limited) | Flow, Launchpad, Shopify Functions for custom discounts and logic |
| Expansion stores | Each store billed separately | Additional storefronts for regions or brands under one contract |
| Limits | Standard staff accounts and API rate limits | Higher staff and API limits, organisation-level admin |
| Support | Standard | Priority support and a dedicated launch engineer |
| Transaction fee with third-party gateway | ~0.6% | ~0.2% |
If you would only use a fraction of these, the maths is harder to justify. If B2B, checkout customisation and international expansion are on your roadmap, they quickly move Plus from “expensive” to “cheaper than building the same capability with apps and workarounds.” Related reading: when to upgrade to Shopify Plus, which Shopify plan fits your store, and migrating Shopify Scripts to Functions.
Shopify Plus pricing FAQ
How much does Shopify Plus cost per month?
Shopify Plus has historically started at around $2,300 per month on a three-year term (billed annually), or roughly $2,500 per month on a standard one-year agreement. Above roughly $800,000 in monthly revenue the fee switches to about 0.25% of monthly sales, capped at a reported $40,000 per month.
Does Shopify Plus charge transaction fees?
You always pay card-processing rates. If you use a third-party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds an extra per-order transaction fee (around 0.2% on Plus). Using Shopify Payments avoids that fee.
What is the total cost of ownership of Shopify Plus?
Beyond the platform fee, budget for apps (commonly a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month), development and maintenance, integrations (ERP, PIM, CRM, 3PL), a one-off migration in year one, and payment processing.
When does Shopify Plus become cheaper than the Advanced plan?
Rarely on the subscription line alone — Plus starts around $2,300 a month against roughly $399 for Advanced. Plus wins when you would otherwise pay for B2B apps, checkout customisation workarounds, multiple stores or higher API limits, or when lower negotiated processing rates offset the fee at high volume.
Is the revenue-based fee calculated on total sales or online sales?
Shopify describes it as a percentage of monthly sales processed through the platform. Model your own numbers with the calculator and confirm the exact definition, threshold and cap in your Shopify Plus agreement.
Can Mgroup help me negotiate or plan a Shopify Plus contract?
Yes. As a Shopify Plus agency we scope the build, migration and integrations that sit behind the platform fee, and help you compare the real first-year cost against the revenue gains from B2B, checkout extensibility and new markets.
